ABU DHABI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News / WAM – 05th Dec, 2018) Women remain a key pillar of social development in the UAE and have been marching ahead with total confidence in all sectors. The leadership leaves no stone unturned in ensuring that opportunities for education, training and employment are open to all without any bias on the basis of gender, an editorial in a local English language daily has said.
The editorial, in today’s edition of The Gulf Today, noted, “The adoption of a new package of national legislative policies and initiatives by the UAE Cabinet to empower Emirati women takes empowerment to a much higher level, worthy of emulation by other nations.
“It is heartening that in a special session chaired by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, the Cabinet approved the empowerment bundle in line with the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to ensure that Emirati women are conducive partners in the UAE’s development journey.”
It added, “The new empowerment package is based on three principal axes: Legislation and Policy, Services, and International Representation, all of which include resources to support the advancement of Emirati women as active partners in local, regional and global arenas.
“Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, H.
H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak’s name will come to mind instantaneously when talking about women’s empowerment.”
As Sheikh Mohammed pointed out, the paper said, “Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak is an inspiring and exemplary model for all women in the UAE. Her Highness is always invested in enhancing the role of women and ensuring their active participation in building the nation. Sheikha Fatima has carried on the legacy of late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan, who sought women’s empowerment as a crucial element to the nation’s development. Now Emirati sisters are reaping the benefits of Zayed’s legacy.”
The editorial went on to note that Emirati women have notched leading positions, including the Speaker of the Federal National Council, with female members making up 20 percent of the FNC. “They have also been appointed to the UAE Cabinet, where women now occupy nine seats. Additionally, they have got key positions in various fields, such as engineers, doctors, lawyers and diplomats, as well as 66 per cent of government jobs, 30 per cent of which are decision-making positions.
“The latest Cabinet decision will undoubtedly help provide more tools to enhance women’s leadership roles and representation in society across all fields on the local, regional and global scale.”
“Each and every Emirati woman deserves praise and respect for proving their capability to excel,” concluded the Sharjah-based daily.
