Abu Dhabi, UAE: The Stephen M. Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan, ranked a Top 5 global provider of executive development programs by the Financial Times, today opens applications for its women’s empowerment scholarship program which aims to develop and enhance the leadership skills of GCC executives with a commitment to gender diversity and women’s empowerment. The announcement was made today during a presentation by the University’s chief executive education officer, Melanie Weaver Barnett, at the Gov HR Summit, the biggest HR platform for the government and public sector in the MENA region.

Recognizing the critical and growing role that women’s empowerment plays in the region, the scholarship will award two aspiring leaders, one from each the private and public sector.

“The GCC is in the midst of an incredible transformation, which represents an amazing opportunity for the region’s leaders. We recognize the powerful role gender diversity plays and the talent and perspective that those who support such diversity bring to the table,” said Weaver Barnett. “This scholarship allows us to play a positive role in inspiring positive change and evolution for women’s empowerment across the Middle East.”

Awardees will receive a scholarship to any one of the University’s open-enrolment executive education programs, which draws executive leaders from a wide variety of sectors and geographies. The scholarship will cover tuition, instructional materials, living accommodations, continental breakfast, lunch, and coffee breaks each day, and selected dinners.

Covering a wide-range of leadership programs such as “The Positive Leader: Deep Change and Organizational Transformation” and “Emerging Leaders Program: Becoming a Transformation Leader,” the 3- to 5-day open-enrolment programs are carried out by the University’s world-renowned faculty who employ a variety of activities, including leadership self-assessments, diagnostics for assessing team effectiveness, group discussions, video case studies, and simulations.

“At Michigan Ross, we are committed to building a better world through business. This happens through powerful ideas, purpose-driven leaders, and the impact those leaders have on organizations and society,” added Weaver Barnett. “In this era of digital transformation, new skills and capabilities are vital for organisations to survive. Ensuring that the workforce is well equipped to guarantee the GCC’s success in 2030 and beyond should be a priority for all of us. We are looking for strong, aspiring women and men to lead this transformation and promote women’s empowerment in the workforce.”

In 2018, Michigan Ross delivered 316 Executive Education programs in over 55 countries, facilitating high-impact learning experiences for more than 5,000 managers and executives for companies around the world including Google, Amazon.com, Oracle, Toyota Group and more.
