The International Women’s Day 2020: How Dubai Will Celebrate?

The International Women’s Day 2020 will be celebrated across the world on March 8th 2020 and obviously Dubai will not stay behind. Dubai is considered one of the most tolerant places in the world where women have complete liberty to live their lives according to their own cultural, social, and religious norms. This year many events will take place across Dubai to celebrate the spirit of sisterhood and women empowerment. These events will bring together women from across the world to share their ideas and thoughts in a cross-cultural dialogue.

Here are some of the important events that are set to take place in Dubai for the International Women’s Day 2020

  1. Art Connects Women 2020 Happening from March 5th-8th 2020 at The One and Only Royal Mirage Dubai, Art Connects Women 2020 will bring together women artists across five continents Europe, Middle-East & Africa, Asia, the Americas, and Oceania. Organized by ZeeArts, this vent is a tribute for women artists and cultural exchange.

  2. WomenEd in UAE Organized by WomenEd in Partnership with Zen PD, it is the first WomenEd event in Dubai. Happening at 48 Burj Gate Sheikh Zayed Road Dubai, this event will take place on March 8th 2020 from 1-4 pm. This event with prominent women speakers will provide an opportunity for women to find helpful guidelines for leadership and development.

  3. African International Women’s Day Event Dubai Happening at FIVE Palm Jumeirah Hotel from March 6th-10th 2020, this annual transformational event is to recognize, empower, and celebrate the African women. It is an opportunity of the like-minded and hardworking African women to come together and share their ideas. It also has workshops on topics like empowerment, business, personal branding, Image, etiquette, health and wellness, sex and relationships by speakers from diverse backgrounds.

  4. Empowering Filipino Women in the Middle East Happening at Power Technical Training Center Dubai on March 7th 2020 (1 -4 pm), here is an empowering session for the Filipino women in the Middle East who comprise a large part of the expat population. The session will have talks on topics like ‘How empowered women should dress in the 21st century?’ The mentorship provided at this session will be helpful for the career of the Filipinos attending this session.

  5. Live Limitless- #EachforEqual Happening at The Canvas Hotel Dubai’s MGallery and in collaboration with Signature by Sanjeev Kapoor, here is an art exhibition. Scheduled for Saturday May 7th 2020 from 7 pm onward, Live Limitless- #EachforEqual is based on the theme of the International Women’s Day 2020 which is Each for Equal.’

  6. Women in Art This is a free event starting on March 4th 2002 from 8-10 pm at The Cube. It is a selling show which will showcase the works of a hundred aspiring female artists living across UAE. These artists are selected on the basis of merit from the 200 applicants who responded to the open call. ‘Women in Art’ is being curated by Gallery Arabesque. The last day of this show is April 16th, 2020.

  7. [LADIES ONLY] Women in Tech Dubai x Astrolabs March Meetup This event started by Astrolabs and supported by Women in Tech Dubai Group provides an opportunity for the women in tech to come together to inspire, celebrate, and connect over a free dinner and an inspirational talk by esteemed speakers from the tech industry. While the meetups happen every month, this time the theme is focused on the International Women’s Day. It will cover topics like the reason why women join tech, the challenges faced, and advice for the fellow women in tech. This event is scheduled to take place in the Training Room of Astrolabs Parkside on March 8th 2020 from 7 to 9 pm.

  8. Free Ladies Golf Lessons Now this is an offer you can clearly not refuse. Jumeira Golf Estates and Country Golf Club is offering free golf lessons to the ladies on the morning of March 8th 2020. It is open to all skill levels and will help the ladies improving their golf skills in a fun environment. And yes, there is complimentary coffee too.

  9. International Women’s Day Luncheon The Kempinski Dubai is holding a luncheon on the occasion of the International Women’s Day on March 8th 2020 in collaboration with Nine West Arabia and Kaya Clinic Arabia. The timings are 12- 3 pm and the price is AED 150 per head.

The role of women in the workforce in UAE has considerably expanded since the discovery of oil in the 1960s. Quoting the United Arab Emirates Government Portal, ‘According to the Annual Economic Report 2018, the total labor force in the UAE in 2017 was  6447.2 thousand. The labor force participation rate was about 92.8 per cent of the total male population aged 15 years and above. The rate of participation in the female labor force was about 41.6 per cent of the total female population.’
